Eastern New Mexico University, or ENMU for short, is a state university in Portales, which is the county seat of Roosevelt County, in the US state of New Mexico, with a population estimated at a number of more than 11 000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census. The university was legislated in 1927 and was opened in 1934, fact which makes it the most recently-founded state university in New Mexico.
ENMU currently has an enrollment of approximately 4300 students, and consists of 4 colleges and a graduate school: College of Business, College of Education and Technology, College of Fine Arts, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School. In addition to the main campus in Portales, the university also has 2 branch degree-granting campuses at Ruidoso and Roswell.
Eastern New Mexico's athletic teams are known as the Greyhounds (male teams) and Zias (female teams), who compete in NCAA Division II. Their distinctive colors are silver and Kelly green.
Among ENMU's noteworthy alumni, there are: actor Ronny Cox, Chief Justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court Edward L.
